Health Benefits of Sweets + Fats: Essential Fatty Acids

Health Benefits of Fats

Because oils contain the essential fatty acids linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid, there is an allowance for oils in the MyPlate food guide.

Oils are the major source of fatty acids that are necessary for health—called “essential fatty acids.”

While consuming some oil is needed for health, oils still contain calories. In fact, oils and solid fats both contain about 120 calories per tablespoon. Therefore, the amount of oil consumed needs to be limited to balance total calorie intake.
In addition to vegetable oils, such as olive, canola and soybean oils, a number of foods are naturally high in fats, like:

nuts
olives
oily fish
avocados

Good News About Sweets

Health Benefits of SweetsChocolate is a favorite sweet treat that also has health benefits. It contains flavonoids, which act as antioxidants. Antioxidants protect the body from aging caused by free radicals, which can cause damage that leads to heart disease.

While chocolate contains ingredients beneficial to health, it does not mean you should overeat chocolate. Chocolate bars and candies are often high in fat, sugar and calories. Moderation is always the key and dark chocolate conveys more benefits than milk chocolate!

Sweets and fats can contribute to optimum health due to the health promoting phytochemicals they may contain – many of which are still being identified.

Mother Decapitates Baby

Mother Decapitates Baby

This story got me 38 hot, seething with anger, and disgusted at the macaub details.

This 20-year-old chick, Deasia Watkins, had a baby 3 months ago and she was actually ordered to stay away from the baby after she was put into the hospital for postpartum psychosis!!!  While she was in the hospital, her aunt was given custody of her new, precious baby.  After she got out, this same aunt allowed her to move in.  It only took a week for Deasia to snap back into a psychotic state of mind and when she did it was the worst some of the investigators on scene have ever seen.  They will probably be scarred for life, I definitely would be.  That would be my last day if I was a crime scene technician.

Deasia decapitated her 3-month-old baby, stabbed the baby several times, and even broke the baby’s arm.  She left the baby’s body on the dayum kitchen counter so when the kids got ready for school, they walked in and her 5-year-old family member found the dead baby then ran outside screaming and hollering about the dead baby.

The aunt, I’m sure, feels like crap!  Her lack of judgment caused a precious child to lose its life.  Mental illness is serious.  If someone is hospitalized for postpartum psychosis, it must be something serious.  They didn’t say postpartum depression.  That’s a whole other level.  And if a mother is told to stay away from her own baby, it’s definitely not a situation you should take lightly.

I’m sorry but the aunt should be brought up on child abuse charges, negligence, and a couple more things, and pay a fine so can learn the full gravity of the situation.

For Deasia, she is mentally ill and needs help.  I’m glad they are not seeking the death penalty in this case because this child is 20-year-old and they may be able to help her.

😦 Sad Story.  Phee

Nutritious Eating Out

When eating out, try these tips to make choices that are consistent with your regular eating goals:

Before you leave home:
Eat a small portion of something so you don’t arrive at the restaurant overly hungry. Think about what you might order so you don’t rush into a decision at the restaurant.

When ordering:
Choose items that indicate “low-fat” or “heart healthy” to be consistent with a lower-fat meal plan.

Avoid dishes described as buttery, buttered, fried, pan-fried, creamy, scalloped, au gratin, extra crispy, sautéed, and à la mode; these will be high in fats from butter, oil, cheese, cream, or ice cream.

Order dishes that are grilled, broiled, steamed, stir-fried, roasted, and poached; these are generally much lower in fat and calories.

Ask to have your food prepared without butter or cream.

When selecting a side dish, choose steamed or raw vegetables, a baked potato, or plain rice.

Order potatoes baked, broiled, or roasted rather than fried. Ask for butter or sour cream on the side, or substitute salsa or chives.

Ask for steamed vegetables or a salad instead of fries, and fresh fruit instead of coleslaw.

Get a broth-based soup, such as minestrone or chicken noodle, which will have fewer calories than a cream soup.

Choose breads and pitas over croissants.

Order water — it’s free! Be careful of unlimited refills on soda and lemonade.
When ordering pizza, order half the amount of cheese and choose vegetable toppings. Eat one or two slices and take the rest home for another meal.

Choose seafood, chicken (without skin), or lean meat.

At a deli, pick turkey, ham, or lean roast beef, which are lower in fat than tuna salad, salami, and bologna.

Order a salad and split an entrée with a friend.

Order dressings and sauces on the side so you can control how much is used.
Ask if you may order a half-portion, or have half the meal boxed up ahead of time.

Avoid all-you-can-eat buffets. Almost everyone overeats when there is so much variety and unlimited portions.
While waiting for your meal:
Drink a full glass of water before your meal arrives.

Avoid ordering alcohol before your food arrives, since it increases your appetite.
Set a limit on bread and tortilla chips.

When eating:
Eat salads, vegetables, and fruit before the main entrée. This will fill you up and allow you to take more calorie-dense food home with you.

Eat slowly. It takes about 20 minutes for your body to realize it’s full!
If ordering dessert, split it with others at the table.

Tips for ordering at different types of restaurants:

Fast Food:
Order burgers without cheese, special sauces, and/or bacon.
Try a grilled chicken sandwich.
Don’t super-size.

Chinese:
Choose entrées with a lot of vegetables.
Avoid egg rolls and egg drop soup.

Italian:
Avoid cheese- and meat-filled pastas.
Order tomato or marinara sauces; avoid white sauces.

Mexican:
Use salsa instead of sour cream, cheese, and/or guacamole.
Try chicken fajitas.
Limit deep-fried foods such as chips, taco shells, and chimichangas.

Steakhouses:
Three to six ounces of meat is a typical portion (about the size of one to two decks of cards). Take the rest home for another meal.
Ask to have your meat trimmed of all fat before cooking.
Ribs, T-bone, and Porterhouse steaks tend to be the fattier cuts; order sirloin or tenderloin steaks for a leaner cut of meat.
Choose a garden salad instead of the Caesar salad.

Chef Q is Paid

Chef Q just got hired by someone famous to cook meals every day at $1000.00 per meal until a special event.

Who do you think this celebrity?

None other than the infamous Floyd Mayweather!  The man that said out loud that he could buy someone’s life (I’ve always hated that).

Anywho, at $1000 per meal, those meals better be fit for a king.

Here are some of the pics from businessinsider.com of Mayweather’s meals thus far.

Would you pay $1000 per meal for those dishes?  They look great, don’t get me wrong, but come on now Floyd.

Whenever I feel down about where I’m at in life, I stop and smack myself. I’m 24. I don’t have to have my shit figured out yet. Actually, that’s the beauty of it – finding yourself through the chaotic traps of life. It doesn’t matter how old I am – there’s always time to change and grow and learn and experience and prosper. It’s never too late – screw the “I take the straight-road” nay-sayers.

For example, I want to be a writer. I know I have a lot of work to do to better my (insert great literary terms and skills here..).. but – I’m on my way and practicing everyday. When I feel like I should give up – I remember that The famous Harry Potter series writer J.K Rowling was a single mom and living on welfare when she began writing. And not only writing, EXCELLING. She…

Teen Mom Catelynn and Tyler’s New Baby

Teen Mom Catelynn and Tyler’s New Baby

Have you ever seen Teen Mom on MTV?

I’m definitely not a teen mom but I took to the Teen Mom show because it was real.

Catelynn and Tyler were my favorite couple and they have standed the true tests of time!

They literally made the most grown up decision for teenagers which was to put their first baby girl up for adoption.  They found the most amazing family that offered a somewhat open adoption.  Through the open adoption, the adopted parents allow Catelynn and Tyler to have contact with their baby and they send pictures and updates often.

Catelynn and Tyler chose adoption because Catelynn’s mother and step father were not the best to be around when Catelynn was pregnant, after she had the baby, and even afterwards due to chemical and alcohol dependencies on both of their parts.  You’re not going to believe this but Catelynn and Tyler started dating first but due to their interaction with each other, her mother and his dad fell in love and eventually got married.  LOL!!!!!  I mean, what can you do at that point.  Cate and Ty were already together and that’s just it.

Over time, Cate and Ty have had their issues but they have remained together through it all.  They are one of the very, very, very, few teen parents that can say they did that.

Well, Cate and Ty have a new baby named Novalee and she’s adorbs!!!! Look at her pics below.

catelyn  novalee

I’m sooooooooooo happy for them for staying together, being responsible, and doing big things.

Look at this new tat that Tyler got for Novalee.

Much happiness to you and Ty Cate!!!!!!!!!!!
