Happy Birthday Marvin Gaye!

Happy Birthday Marvin Gaye!

Marvin Gaye would’ve turned 81 years old today if his father didn’t fatally shoot him on the eve of his birthday in 1984.My generation grew up on the baby-making music of R. Kelly. Well, growing up my parents spun the Motown sounds on vinyl almost daily. Loved it! Marvin Gaye was all that and a bag of chips in my eyes with hits like I Heard It Through the Grapevine, Let’s Get It On, I Want You, Mercy, Mercy, Me, What’s Going On, Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing and the Columbia Records hit, Sexual Healing. There are many more where that came from. His music is timeless. You can play his music today and still want to buy it, make a baby or do a two-step. I guess that’s why Robin Thicke found so much success with Blurred Lines. That music!! LOL. Anyway, this is one of my favorite Marvin Gaye jams in all of its acapella glory!. Do you hear how he uses his voice as a musical instrument? So crisp, clear, noiice!!

I know you were able to bob your head even with the music accompaniment!

What’s Your Jam Wednesday?

What do you know about that old Justin Timberlake?

This is one of my most favorite JT songs, “Seniorita”.

Hi Cocoa Drops! This song means a lot to me. When I am stressed or feel overwhelmed at times, I need a reminder to just simply hold on. My mindset is focused on greatness right now and when I am disappointed or something doesn’t turn out right, I get distracted. When I end my meditation to regain clarity and focus, I play this song “Your Destiny” by Kevin Levar.

Enjoy!

Kelly Rowland and Family

Cocoa Drops, I’m soooooooooooooo happy for Kelly Rowland.

I love her new life.  She is married, has a beautiful husband, and a gorgeous new baby boy named Titan.

Just recently she lost her mother but she had the chance to see her grand baby before she passed which is amazing and so sad at the same time.

Congrats Kelly!  You deserve all the happiness in the world and more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Phee, this feature dude shut it all the way down at the Superbowl last year! His performance was up there with the almighty Prince. As I run deeper into Arabia Mountain Park, I find that my music has an issue streaming, so I have begun a playlist. The 1st song on my playlist is this upbeat and hot number by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars. It’s too hot! Hot damn! Lol

OSS – Old School Saturdays in Atlanta

OSS – Old School Saturdays in Atlanta

For all of us who grew up in the 80s and 90s, there was some great music.

Old School Saturdays in Atlanta focus on those 2 decades when they throw parties.

The parties are every month and you can purchase tickets ahead of time.

Wednesday Jam

My jam this week was featured on the hit tv show “Empire” that airs every Wednesday night on Fox.

The character Jamal is played by Jussie Smollett and he sang this on the show but actually recorded the track too.

It’s just a feel good song with a great beat and beautiful message about loving someone.

Enjoy!

Cocoa Drops, you already know I love me some Jill Scott, but this collabo with her and The Roots is Absolutely THE Best!!! The soul, the rhythm, the lyrics….amazing. If I were to introduce this song to a crowd, I would be silly and say something like, “This is for you insecure brothas out there!” Lol. Nah, this is a love story about distance and the woman affirming her man. Telling him no matter how far away, no matter how long he’s gone, she has his back and is remaining loyal. LOVE IT! Enjoy!

Jilly from Philly is AMAZING!

Jilly from Philly is AMAZING!

Jill Scott has been on a health journey for the last several years and her results are incredible. She has always been stunning and this transformation only enhances that beauty. One great thing about her mindset on this health journey that inspires me is that she knows that she will never be a stick figure. She is going for a healthy lifestyle. Jill has a lot of curves and a lot of boobs. I do wonder if she will get a reduction like Queen Latifah because her smaller frame may not be able to handle those DDD’s.

Jill describes her workout regimine in an article at http://theyolandaadamsmorningshow.com/848533/how-jill-scott-lost-over-60-pounds/Jill says that she does 60 minutes of cardio and strength-training exercises three times a week with her trainer, Scott Parker. It comes in the form of kickboxing, boxing and biking outdoors. Her favorite is biking outdoors because she can bring her son along. “We have fun!” She adds that while she’s happy about the weight loss, she’s not trying to change her womanly curves.

See, it’s all light and fluffy like I imagine her personality being. When she smiles, all I hear is “Come to the light. Come to the light. ” Lol. I like that song for one thing and secondly I think she is a beacon of positivity. She’s taking her time with this journey and I’m not mad at her. She may even wear body shapers to enhance her curves, but so what. Do you, diva! I’ll just end with more pictures of her transformation.

Taylor Swift Saves the Day for a Super Fan

Taylor Swift Saves the Day for a Super Fan

I adore Taylor Swift’s rise to fame.  She’s one of the youngest musicians with almost majority control over her album, songs, and career path and that’s hard to do then stay at the top of the charts.

To me, Taylor is a genuine person and really cares about people, especially her fans.

I read an article from the Huffington Post that said a super fan of hers sent Taylor a video of Taylor and her friends.  Taylor responded by sending the super fan a watercooler with a bunch of momentos and then a check for $1989 to help her pay off her student loans.

This was so sweet of Taylor to do this in my eyes.  I felt like I had got the check because I just really appreciate someone helping someone else out sometimes.

Let me win the lottery….it would be my job to help others with whatever!  That’s why I want the money the most.

Anywho, Taylor, thanks for helping one of your fans “shake off” the feds for awhile.  LOL
