I know there was a lot of controversy about Beyoncé singing Take My Hand, Precious Lord by Mahalia Jackson over Ledisi at the Grammys. After tonight, I hope people realize that those opppsing were right. I’ve never heard anyone butcher that song so badly. Why did she even ask to do the song? Why did John Legend and Common agree to that mess. The loyalty to the singer who portrayed the artist in Selma was completely gone. John Legend even said, you don’t say no to Beyoncé. Yes, you do. Just use phonetics while you put the N and the O together. Anywho, that’s my soapbox. I found these on YouTube.

Ledisi’s version:
I feel that I saved the best for last. Your thought?

I was mildly upset by Beyonce’s performance, and I had no idea there was even any backstory about her taking it away from anyone else. I wouldn’t have recognized the hymn if I hadn’t been told what it was! There was no coherent melody, no rhythm… just a series of rather desperate bleats woven together into a “song.” I had nothing against Beyonce when I started watching it, but by the end I was pretty disgusted.
